REPORT: The Elder Scrolls Online Announced

THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE ANNOUNCED

Willy:

The Elder Scrolls Online was announced by Game Informer. It will be coming out next year for PC and Mac. It has been in development since 2007, and it seems to be like a generic MMORPG like The Old Republic and Everquest 2.

Mold:

If its an Elder Scrolls MMO created by Bethesda, it will not be playable for a good year after its release. Let’s be real here.

IronBass:

It was developed by the team at Zenimax Online Studios. That’s even worse!

Mold:

Zenimax, of all things.

Ontain:

I couldn’t even stand to play it on PC because it gave me carpal tunnel syndrome.

IronBass:

So it’s The Elder Scrolls (which makes it bad), it’s only for PC (even worse), and it’s from ZOE (terrible).

Wasdie:

It will be fine. Skyrim made enough money for them to hire competent programmers.

Mold:

Same could be said with Bethesda and Oblivion, and look how Skyrim turned out.

Raven:

Oh yeah.

Ontain:

Skyrim turned out fine.

Wasdie:

Skyrim wasn’t that buggy. Hell, 1.04 is stable, framerates improved across the board, and there are less bugs. That was..what…two months after launch?

Ontain:

My only complaint was the terrible UI.

Raven:

Skyrim was fine for me, and I played it the day before launch.

Wasdie:

Oh yes, that UI was bad. Luckily mods can fix it.

Mold:

The UI was definitely made for consoles.

Raven:

The console UI was fantastic.

Wasdie:

With a console UI you barely get any useful information. You spend a lot of time juggling around menus and pressing a lot of buttons.

Mold:

There aren’t that many menus.

Ontain:

Yeah, I like random access to stuff. Not scrolling menus though.

Wasdie:

What if you wanted to see the stats of the bottom thing in your inventory? You had to scroll all the way to it. That was terrible. Play it with a mouse and keyboard, and you’ll see it’s better that way.

Mold:

It’s not like you even have a bottomless inventory in TES anyway.

Wasdie:

It works with a controller, but on a PC there is so much wasted screen space. It’s pathetic.

Mold:

Oh God, Mass Effect 1 was so bad with that.

Wasdie:

Mass Effect 1, so bad. So bad. By the end I had like 2 million credits because of all the junk I sold.

Mold:

I didn’t even care enough to sell it, too much scrolling.

Jecht:

The PC interface was much better than the console versions.

Wasdie:

The PC interface wasn’t much better, the inventory management still sucked. ME2 and ME3 did it right, I think. I liked those systems, with no inventory, just upgrades. Made life easier. ME1 had too many lingering RPG mechanics that didn’t make sense and weren’t executed well.

Ontain:

It would have worked if their UI for the inventory didn’t suck. Stalker’s inventory was fine.

Mold:

Pokemon games had better inventory management than ME1. That bag divided into pouches…life was grand.
